French President Pays First State Visit to Germany in 24 Years On May 26, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Berlin, Germany, for a visit, marking the first state visit by a French president to Germany in 24 years. Macron stated on the same day that the European Union is currently facing severe internal and external challenges, which could even lead to the demise of Europe. He emphasized the importance of advancing Franco-German relations for Europe. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated that the two countries need to jointly address geopolitical challenges posed by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Gaza Strip conflict, and the US presidential election, among others. Severe Storms Hit Central US, At Least 18 Dead Strong storms recently struck parts of the central United States, including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kentucky, triggering tornadoes and strong winds and other severe weather, resulting in at least 18 deaths, including several children, and hundreds injured.
